The IPCC Global Warming Potential (GWP) list, published by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), is a scientific tool used to quantify the contribution of different greenhouse gases to global warming. It provides GWP values over a 100-year time horizon, primarily based on the IPCC's Sixth Assessment Report (AR6), and includes values from previous reports for inventory and reporting purposes. The list covers major greenhouse gases as well as various hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and perfluorocarbons (PFCs).
Compliance Obligations
Substance being listed in the IPCC GWP inventory does not create direct legal obligations. This list provides GWP values for greenhouse gas emission inventories and reporting. Although it is not legally binding, many countries and international agreements use the IPCC GWP values as a scientific basis for greenhouse gas reporting and emission reduction targets. Therefore, it is recommended that companies refer to these GWP values to calculate emissions and report and manage according to applicable national or regional regulations.
